Audi Cup: Manchester United vs Boca Juniors

The 1st semi-final of the Audi Cup was played between Man Utd and Boca Juniors which resulted in a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the Red Devils. Anderson opened the scoring with a stunning free kick; his first from open play for United. Antonio Valencia was very impressive in his 1st outing for the Red Devils and he also scored on Debut. Insua scored for the Argentinian Side in the second half.
It was a tense and a hard fought affair with the match being a knockout and United were given a run for their money specially in the second half which was dominated by Boca, with their influential playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme at the forefront of all the attacks.
I think this was a good outing for the boys in Red and it was good to see the new boy Valencia adjusting to the United style of play.United will face either Milan or Bayern in the final which will be another feisty encounter.

Cricket : Pak vs Srilanka preview of 1st ODI

After a demoralizing defeat in the test series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan would be looking forward to make their mark in the ODI series. Pakistan has a better looking One day side as ICL players as well as their main trump card Shahid Afridi come into the team. This series would be an interesting spectacle as both sides are well-matched and although Pakistan lost the test series will still be considered slight favourites due to fact that they have a stronger squad.
It will be interesting to see what team Younis Khan goes in with as one of the main middle order batsman might have to sit out to get a good balance of the team and it will also be intriguing to see wether Umar Akmal or Fawad Alam get a chance. On the other hand srilanka has a pretty well balanced team and only expected change will be at the top where Upul Thanranga will replace the injured Dilshan.
Match Day: 30th July 2009

Prediction : In my opinion a close win for Pakistan because of a strong ODI squad

  1. Man City are to make an improved bid for Everton's Jolean Lescott after their initial bid for 15million pounds was rejected by Everton
  2. Ex-Liverpool full back has joined Portsmouth on a one year deal
  3. David Villa has reitrated his desire to stay at Valencia for atleast a year with reports emerging that Manchester United and Chelsea are in hunt to sign the Spanish Hit Man.
  4. Reputed Spanish Journalist Guilleme Balague has said that no bid has been made by Manchester United for Sergio Aguero.
In my opinion Manchester United need to reinforce their midfield rather than buying another striker, but if the right player is available at the right price then they should go for it. Manchester United has also been linked with David Silva. If this deal happens then it would be interesting to see wether Nani stays at United or he is shipped out to another club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich has finally completed his move to Barcelona from Inter Milan. The deal includes a payment of 46 million euros and samuel eto'o and Alexander Hleb going to Inter Milan. Although it is a very important signing for Barcelona but they have seriously paid over the odds to sign the Swedish Striker. The deal is almost worth 80 to 85 million euros which is alot for a player who is often criticized for going 'missing' in the big games. We shall see how this deal pans out for the two clubs and the players respectively

P.S His buy out clause is a mere sum off 250 million euros!!!:P

Cricket Update

Bangladesh defeated WestIndies(B TEAM I SHOULD SAY) By 52 runs with left arm spinner abdul razzak getting 4 wickets and picking up the man of the match
Bangladesh 246/9 50 overs
West Indies 194 all out 43.4 ov

In my opinon the WICB should bring back the old players as this series is going nowhere and its not good for cricket in general. Bangladesh is also suffering because they need to pay quality cricket against quality players and with all due to respect to the players currently in the WI team they are just not good enough. In my opinion ICC should step in as this is just a mockery of cricket

In other news Pakistan is Plying the Srilankan A team at kurunegla today. This is the only one day side match before the one-day series between Pakistan and Srilanka.
Current Score : Srilanka A 49/2 in8.5 overs
